On the March 3rd, 2017 PA day, children embarked on an imaginary journey Around the World. We visited Brazil, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, Australia, Africa, and of course ended our journey in Canada. Through a variety of experiences such as creative art, music, and play, children expanded their own knowledge and gained a better understanding of the diversity and uniqueness of each country. With this knowledge in tow, children worked together to create their own Country that included a National Anthem, specialized sport, and a unique food creation that was based on candy. As the day progressed, children loved collecting stamps for their individualized passports.

December and January have been very busy for our little group! We started off December by partnering up with Fairmount Seniors Home to bring a little holiday cheer to those residents who wouldn't get to see their families over the holiday season. This year, our goal was to complete 20 cards. Every child had the opportunity to choose from our “Fairmount” box of various craft materials such as old cards, gift tags, sparkles, artificial snow and stickers to make their creations. Of course a nice message went inside each and every card. The children always put lots of effort and creativity into making each card unique and special. We are proud to report that we surpassed our goal and were able to create 25 cards!!

"Who likes pizza?"

And so it began... Gino's Pizzeria was born.

One simple question turned into days of fun and exploring our love for pizza. The children completely embraced the idea of opening their own pizzeria! The group picked the name "Gino's"! They also developed a store sign and a menu which had numerous items on it. There was lots to pick from! A little imagination can go a long way and we had so much fun! After the menu was produced they put their efforts into making all the food which they happily served with smiles and laughter.

Give children boxes and a wonderful thing begins to happen. They become architects, artists, mathematicians, educators, firefighters, police officers, flight engineers, scientists. The possibilities are endless. Give children boxes and they work together to set goals. They problem solve and become team members. They develop a vision and ask that all important question: "I wonder what.....?"

The children at FCCC-Rideau Heights spotted an apple tree just beyond our yard and wanted to check it out. So out they went with their educator to get a closer look. They spied lots and lots of little green apples. One little boy asked, "Can we pick some apples? And what can we do with them?”

The children came up with a plan, they needed something to put the apples in once they picked them, so buckets were gathered and off they went apple picking.

They returned with their buckets full and brought them to our talented cook to see what she could do with them. She suggested apple jelly and the children thought that was a great idea.

Each child received a jar of apple jelly to take home made from the apples that they so carefully gathered.

Who knows what they will spot next and where it will take them.
